Through a grant from NiSource / Columbia Gas, these seven remarkable youth, ages 5-17, will be recognized with granite walk-of-fame stars emblazoned with their names and categories of achievement, installed at 1159 South’s Innisfallen Inspiration Garden:
Amir Harris – Excellence in Academics
Christopher B. Brown II – Excellence in Academics
Ke’Shae Colvin – Excellence in Athletics
Mackenzie Dawn Davis-Jackson – Excellence in Leadership
Promise Mytavia Beavers – Excellence in Athletics
Ray’shaun Beavers – Excellence in Community Service
Te’Sean Smoot – Excellence in Leadership
With support from the Springfield Foundation, which has funded many elements of the Innisfallen Inspiration Garden, 1159 South will unveil a bronze plaque honoring former local civil rights icon Hattie Moseley. Springfield News & Sun identified Ms. Moseley and Dorothy Bacon, as “perhaps the city’s most important civil rights activists whose efforts helped to change the racial landscape of Springfield.” Newsweek Magazine likened Ms. Moseley’s fearlessness to the great antislavery preacher Sojourner Truth. Permanent recognition of Ms. Moseley’s important and compelling work is long overdue. We are thankful to the Springfield Foundation and Clark County Public Library Community Engagement Librarian, Sarah Webb, who will speak to Hattie Moseley’s life work and impact on the community.
The unveiling is Oct. 9, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at 1051 S. Yellow Springs St.
